It all begins with an idea.

The Tennessee Titans began roster cuts on Monday, and there is a lot more to be done over the next day for the team to reach the 53-man roster limit by Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

The Titans moved on from 16 players on Monday, and there is a lot more to come. Though many expect tight end Thomas Odukoya to be one of those cuts, I’m gonna make the case why Odukoya should be on Tennessee’s 53-man roster.

Odukoya made Tennessee’s 53-man roster last year, as the team decided to keep five tight ends. Though the Titans probably won’t do that this year, Odukoya still has a solid chance to squeeze onto the roster.

The Netherlands-born Odukoya made his mark on special teams during the preseason in 2024, and though he wasn’t nearly as impactful on that end this time in the preseason, he was still pretty good.

PFF rewarded Odukoya with a 67.8 special teams grade, including a 75.4 grade in the preseason finale versus the Minnesota Vikings. However, Odukoya wasn’t very involved in the passing game in the preseason, garnering one target.

Chig Okonkwo, Gunnar Helm, and David Martin-Robinson are all over Odukoya on the depth chart, but if the Titans decide to keep four tight ends, Odukoya should get the nod over Josh Whyle.

Though Whyle is the better receiver, Odukoya has much more upside on special teams and has proven his impact there. So, I think there’s a shot that Tennessee keeps Odukoya over Whyle on the roster, which would be a surprising decision to some.
