The Titans must sign this Veteran Free Agent before Training Camp!

Donald Page/Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans began OTAs on Tuesday, May 27th, as the team nears Mandatory Minicamp on June 10 and eventually training camp, which will kickoff sometime in July.

The Titans have already made most of their major offseason moves, but we could see some smaller signings here and there from general manager Mike Borgonzi. That said, there is one veteran player still on the free agency market that Tennessee must sign before training camp.

Titans must sign free agent offensive tackle George Fant

Fant played in just two games in 2024 due to a knee injury, and is still on free agency market. The veteran may not be a starting-caliber offensive tackle anymore, but he could still serve as fantastic depth, and the Titans need some badly on the offensive line.

Tennessee’s starters at tackle are locked, as Dan Moore Jr. will handle responsibilities at left tackle while JC Latham moves back to right tackle, the position he excelled at in college. However, the Titans lack quality depth behind them.

Signing Fant to a cheap deal to compete for a backup spot on the offensive line would be a savvy move from Borgonzi. The 32-year-old has the versatility to play both tackle positions and has started 75 games since entering the league in 2016.

Fant’s best campaign came in 2021 with the New York Jets, where he started 15 games, mostly at left tackle, and allowed just one sack and 18 quarterback pressures with a 71.1 PFF grade. Just two years ago in 2023, Fant started 13 games for the Houston Texans at right tackle and allowed three sacks and 28 quarterback pressures.

Bringing in Fant makes perfect sense. He would be an excellent depth piece on Bill Callahan’s unit and could also step in as a starter if needed. The Titans have already shown interest in the Western Kentucky product this offseason, as Fant visited Tennessee’s facility back in April.

Before the draft, I wrote an article on why the Titans must sign Tyler Lockett. A few days later, Mike Borgonzi inked Lockett to a deal. He should listen to me again and sign Fant to a team-friendly contract to bolster the depth behind Moore and Latham at offensive tackle.
