It was a busy week of training camp for the Tennessee Titans, as the team practiced in pads five times as they prepare for a joint practice and preseason game versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the coming week.
With the pads on, one veteran player stood out during this week’s practices and is making a strong and unexpected case to make the Titans’ 53-man roster.

James Proche II may defy the odds and make the Titans 53-man roster
Before the start of camp, most didn’t have James Proche II snagging a spot on the roster. However, through two weeks of camp, the veteran receiver is looking more and more like a roster contender.
According to Jim Wyatt of Titans.com, Proche II has snagged 12 receptions in the open training camp practices so far. He led the team in receptions during Wednesday and Friday’s practices, and is looking like a dynamic playmaker.
“James Proche is the most productive receiver in 11-on-11 through six training camp practices,” A to Z Sports’ Easton Freeze said on X on August 1. “He has been impressive at all three levels of the field.”
Titans head coach Brian Callahan is also taking notice of Proche’s standout camp, stating that the 28-year-old receiver is making a case for himself.
“He's really shown up and had a nice camp. He's been consistently making plays and is making a case for himself,” Callahan said during a press conference on August 3.
Proche’s impressive receiving production isn’t the only reason why he is a roster challenger, as his ability to return punts and kicks is also helping his case. During his time with the Baltimore Ravens (2020-2023) and the Cleveland Browns (2023-2024), Proche returned 68 punts for 591 yards.
If Proche can translate his stellar play in practice to the upcoming preseason games, it’ll be hard for the Titans to cut the former sixth-round pick.
As it stands right now, I have Calvin Ridley, Elic Ayomanor, Bryce Oliver, Tyler Lockett, Chimere Dike, and Van Jefferson as my top six receivers. If the team decides to keep seven, Proche feels like a lock to earn that spot, especially with his value on special teams.
